Churchfields the Village School in Atworth is hosting a Family Fun Day at Great Chalfield Manor & Gardens.
Churchfields and The National Trust’s Great Chalfield Manor & Gardens have set a date for a fun family day out on Saturday 6th June to raise much needed funds for the school.
“This is the first time such a collaboration has ever taken place and the local community, including several local businesses have come together to ensure this event will be a great success,” said Jen Firth.
Great Chalfield Manor is a romantic 15th Century manor house, complete with a moat, a sprawling fishpond, topiary houses and a beautiful garden that’s perfect for a summer picnic. It’s something of a local secret and sits on a rural backroad amongst picturesque countryside.
The inside of the property is equally as stunning. For viewers of the series ‘Wolf Hall’ that aired on BB2, Great Chalfield Manor provided the interiors for Thomas Cromwell’s house.
On the Fun Day Out there will be plenty of free activities aimed at kids of all ages including ‘search and find’ trails with a prize for everyone who enters, sports activities, balloon entertainment, and full access to the amazing gardens, including hollow hedges so big that you can sit on a chair inside.
Children can enjoy some quiet time too, with colouring and crafts, or have a go at winning prizes with a range of games and competitions. There will also be bouncy castles with slides and ball pits, and lots more on offer to keep the little ones busy having some summer fun.
For parents there will be plenty of refreshments including a barbecue supported by Warleigh Lodge Farm, traditional cream teas, ice creams and of course, much needed Pimms!
While the children are entertained, why not sit on the lawn and enjoy the live music entertainment brought to you by various local talent. If all that isn’t enough, there will also be guided tours of the manor house available at 11.30am and 2.00pm with Jim and Carole, who’ve volunteered at the house for many, many years and tell a spellbinding story about its history.
Tickets are £3.50 per person if purchased early from gcmfunday.event brite.co.uk and ‘under 12s’ go free.
