AFTER over 30 years working as a GP at Spa Medical Centre, Dr Rob Matthews will be retiring at the end of June.
Practice manager at the centre, Gaynor Cole, said, “Rob trained as a doctor at St Mary’s Hospital, London. He trained as a GP in Trowbridge and has worked at Spa Medical Centre since 1991.
“During his 31 years at Spa, Rob has delivered high quality healthcare both at the practice and his numerous other roles. He has been extremely influential in effecting positive change in the local health community, along with an active involvement in practice-based commissioning, shaping local health services for the benefit of the local population.
“Throughout his 31 years in general practice, he has been an inspiration to us all. A fantastic caring doctor, he’s delivered consistently high-quality clinical treatment and care to his patients, specialising in joint injections, care of the elderly, cancer care, hypertension, and orthopaedics. Rob has also been instrumental in delivering the vasectomy service at Spa, which has been a huge success.
“He has also been involved in GP and nurse training and mentorship; many local GPs and nurses have been mentored by him, successfully gaining their accreditation or qualification with his support.
“A keen and capable sailor, skier, and mountain biker, Rob is looking forward to having more time to pursue his interests.
“I am sure both patients and colleagues will join me in thanking him for his commitment, passion, and care during his career. We wish him a healthy, happy retirement and the best of luck with the next chapter.”
