MELKSHAM Seniors has a busy few weeks ahead with exciting events and activities planned, including a special cookery demonstration from a local celebrity chef and the film club starts again.
Chair of the Seniors, Brian Warwick reports, “On the 18th September we have a super humorous film, ‘The Time of Their Lives’, starring Joan Collins, Pauline Collins and Franco Nero. It is a warm, witty and moving film about two older rather repressed ladies, who break the mould and set off an a journey across Europe. It is an unforgettable trip as they find true friendship and have the time of their lives.
“Prior to the film we have the head chef, Paul Rimmer, from Apetito giving a cookery demonstration, followed by a food tasting session of the new range of products being provided by Wiltshire Food. Doors will be open from 12.30pm and the demonstration will commence at 1pm, followed by the film at approx 2.15pm.”
Melksham Seniors are also still working toward making Melksham an age -friendly community.
“We are delighted at the support we are getting to supporting the project to make Melksham an age-friendly community and we shall be providing more information and a progress report early in October.
“The health and well being of older people in our ageing society is an ongoing debate. Changes in population demographics have resulted in an ever increasing number of Seniors over 75 years. Thanks to the work being put in place around health and well being here in Wiltshire and the ongoing consultation taking place, there is a great opportunity for older people’s views to be heard. This is also a clear opportunity to improve the quality of life of our ageing population, and to challenge the negative perceptions towards older persons as they enjoy the longer post-working life period, referred to as their ‘third age’. There is also an opportunity to raise the aspirations of older people themselves to demand a higher quality built environment that does support their ageing and mobility.
“Melksham Seniors now has a sub-group that is helping to take the lead around developing a closer relationship with the local CCG, health professional and allied public bodies. Martin Pain our vice chairman has been elected as the chair and spokesperson for that sub group. Martin would be delighted to hear from you on the subject of improving the lives of older people.”
