A FEMALE trustee has been elected as chair of trustees of Melksham Almshouses Charities for the first ever time.
Pat Aves, who has taken over from John Crook, said, “I was elected chair of the trustees on the evening of Wednesday 15th March. I am the first lady chair ever for Melksham. I succeed John Crook, big boots to fill as they say, but he remains as a trustee. Bruce Sanders is deputy chair.”
More trustees are needed to join the charity. Pat said, “We do need a couple more trustees. If anyone is interested, please email the secretary Russell Lewis via, russell.lewis7@btinternet. com.”
Melksham Almshouses were built in 1862 by Quaker and philanthropist Rachel Fowler to provide homes for people in need. The homes were left to the parish after her death to continue the work that she had started.
