FOLLOWING their win as Melksham News’ Group of the Year, the Melksham Food Bank team have given a big thank you to the community for their award; they are also calling for residents to donate much-needed items.
The food bank won the award for their efforts in handing out food parcels to residents in need. Last year, they gave out 9,036 food parcels, an average of over 750 per month, over two distribution days per week.
“We were all thrilled and pleased to accept the award, especially for all our dedicated team of drivers who collect donations from our collection points twice a week for the benefit of our community,” says Kay Perry from the food bank team. “And we’d like to thank the community for all their support in donating items. Please keep on donating; this can be done at local supermarkets and shops and at any church in Melksham.
“At the moment, items the food bank are most in need of are UHT milk, tinned potatoes, any tinned vegetables and custard.”
The Melksham Food Bank is based in the Baptist Church on Old Broughton Road; it is open on Monday 1.30pm to 3.30pm and Thursday 10am to 12pm.
You can donate items at the following places: Asda Superstore, Co-op (Blackmore Rd), Coventry Building Society, Lidl, Poundstretcher, Sainsbury’s Superstore, Spa Rd Service Station, The Original Factory Shop, Waitrose and any church in Melksham.
