FOREST and Sandridge Primary School pupils have been helping to spread festive joy as they have joined the ‘Link to Hope Family Shoebox Appeal’.
The appeal is similar to the Operation Christmas Child appeal which is run from Bowerhill, except the Link to Hope Shoebox Appeal is aimed at families rather then just children.
The list of items required includes those for all family members such as shower gel, shampoo, family games, stationery items, gift for mum and dad as well as sweets, soft toys, hats, scarves and many more. Boxes go to Eastern European countries such as Ukraine, Bulgaria, Moldova and Albania.
Forest and Sandridge have helped with the appeal for a number of years and this Christmas has been no exception. Pupils have been packing and wrapping shoeboxes ready to be sent to families in need. Year five pupils Erin Baber and Corey Wyatt were part of the team who helped prepare the boxes. Erin said, “I have really enjoyed it, The best thing in there are the sweets! It’s good to help children who don’t have as much as us.” Classmate Corey agreed. He said, “It is good fun doing the shoeboxes and it is good to know that the families who receive it will be grateful and excited.”
The annual Family Shoebox Appeal has been running since 1992 and has delivered smiles to thousands of people in Eastern Europe over the years. Over 600,000 shoeboxes have been sent to hundreds of different locations since the appeal began over 20 years ago.
