The peaceful grounds of Lacock Abbey will be the backdrop to a carefully curated show of work by seven artists, as the National Trust property opens ‘Frozen World’, a wintery sculpture show running from Saturday 17th January to Sunday 8th February.
The exhibition is designed to capture the stillness of winter with artworks from giant flower sculptures to delicate glass installations hanging from trees. This will be complemented by the natural beauty on show at this time of year, with carpets of snowdrops starting to appear and early morning frosts adorning the abbey grounds.
Each of the seven artists work in very different ways with artworks made from such materials as glass, resin and dichroic glass. The theme that will unify each of these works is the celebration of the frosty stillness, shadows of icy shapes and reflection of light on display at this time of year. In this respect the exhibition holds true to the work of William Henry Fox Talbot whose invention of the photographic negative at Lacock Abbey meant that images of objects could be captured and ‘frozen’ forever.
