A local man has cycled from London to Amsterdam in four days, raising over £7,000 for Motor Neurone Disease Association (MNDA) following his brother’s diagnosis with the disease in 2020.
Russell Crocker cycled 352 miles for the charity, starting in Croydon and heading down to Dover. He took the ferry to Calais, then cycled from Calais to Bruges, on to Breda and finally to Amsterdam via Rotterdam.
He said, “The cycle went really well! One of the highlights was the feeling of completing the challenge and the overwhelming amount of money raised. The hills between Croydon and Dover and the headwind whilst heading through France and Belgium was a big challenge.”
This is the second charity cycle ride Russell has completed for MNDA. Last year, he cycled from London to Paris in aid of the charity, which has supported his family and brother, Richard, who lived with MND symptoms for over a year before he was diagnosed.
“In total, with the two bike rides, I have raised over £12,500 for the charity, which has done so much to support my brother and our family whilst he lives with this terrible and unforgiving disease. The ride was just as hard as last year, although flatter, but the wind made it challenging.”
There were 80 people in total who took part in the cycle, all raising funds for various charities.
