The history of Melksham and its local railway stations was the subject of the town’s first history talk of 2025.
Delivered by the Melksham and District Historical Association, over 100 people, including 34 visitors, attended to hear the association’s secretary Peter Maslen give the talk.
“A very knowledgeable audience was treated to not just the cold facts of dates and events but also details of Isambard Kingdom Brunel’s visit to the town, although there was no mention of the Beatles passing through,” said the association’s chair, Paul Carter.
The next history talk, Imber and Other Elements on Nearby Salisbury Plain, will be presented by Richard Osgood, senior archaeologist for Defence Infrastructure, on Thursday 20th February, at 7.30pm at Melksham Assembly Hall.
Membership remains open at £18, and visitors are always welcome at £4.
The full programme is now available on the Melksham and District Historical Association’s website: www.melkshamhistoricalassociation.org.
