Melksham Town are gearing up for one of the biggest games in their 139 year history when they travel to local rivals Bradford Town on Saturday in the last 32 (Round 4) of the national FA Vase competition with the final played at Wembley in May.
Prior to this season the Town had only progressed to round three on three occasions, and so will be completing at this stage for the first time, with the winners picking up a cheque for £2,000 and the prospect of a trip to anywhere in the UK in the next round, from Cornwall to Newcastle.
Their opponents Bradford Town recently inflicted a 3-0 defeat on the Town at The Conigre on Boxing Day so the Town are under no illusions of the size of the task facing them but go into the game buoyed by their latest result and confident in their ability to come out on top on the day.
Melksham hope to attract a large travelling support to Bradford Town and would advise any supporters to leave early due to parking restraints at the Bradford Sports Club Ground, Trowbridge Road (BA15 1EE). Kick off is 3.00pm. Extra time is to be played if the scores are level after 90 minutes and a replay will be at The Conigre on Monday 19th January at 7.30 pm if the sides cannot be separated.
After the success of the ‘free scarf’ promotion a few weeks back the Town would urge all supporters to come “decked in their black and yellow” scarves as a show of support for this Town team based on a local player ethic which has proved so successful over recent seasons.
