Melksham RFC Youth & Mini section covers both girls and boys from ages 3 through to 18.
Youth chairman, Matt Glover said, “We begin with Rugrats (age 3 to 5 years) and then move into tag rugby (non contact) up until the U9 age group where contact is slowly brought into the game.
“Getting kids off of the sofa and onto the rugby pitch brings a wide variety of physical, mental and social skills which will bode well for them as they reach adulthood, whilst at the same time making friends for life.
“We can proudly say that we have a very family friendly/safe environment where all coaches and team managers have been trained by the RFU in the appropriate courses and DBS checked to ensure your child is always looked after and feels safe.
“Rugby is for everyone, and I don’t just mean for the players. The club has a great social side to it, where we run regular events for the whole family and sometimes just for the parents (we are parents too and also need a break sometimes!) Every year we organise a club rugby tour which runs over a weekend (although many end up staying for a week). We also run a festival each year where we invite other teams to come along and play us, which is always a great success.
“As your child progresses through the age groups, more skills are learnt and the possibility for your child to progress to county level and beyond becomes available. Playing at The Rec at Bath and playing on the hallowed ground at Twickenham was a highlight for a number of players throughout the club last year.
“The club is completely volunteer-run and is owned by its members. All children that are registered with the club brings with them free membership for parents. This membership gives you discounts at the club, plus voting rights in how the club is run.
“New members are always welcome and we do run a ‘try before you buy’ policy so that you do not need to join if you find it is not for you or your child after a couple of weeks.”
