Are you ready to Rock?! An exciting new show is coming to the Assembly Hall next month that will have you dancing all night, and all for a good cause.
Organisers say, “Immerse yourself in the incredible new live music experience with Rock For Heroes. The show brings the perfect combination of your favourite rock & pop artist across the eras, in celebration of an incredible cause – Help for Heroes.
“The charity provides lifelong support to service personnel and military veterans with injuries, illnesses and wounds sustained while serving in the British Armed Forces. Organisers will be collecting for this amazing cause, after every show.
“Performed by a full live rock band and superb singers, it’s the must-see show of the year. Music will be from artists such as Dire Straits, Status Quo, Queen, David Bowie, Madonna, Spandau Ballet, Bryan Adams, Elton John, Simple Minds and so many more.
“You won’t see a bad wig here, this isn’t a tribute act this is simply paying tribute, the best way we can to the legends in music.

The Independent Chapel and Women’s Rights in the 1840s
A document I recently transcribed lists the baptisms performed at the Independent Chapel. This record is especially helpful in that, along with baptisms, a lot of them include birth dates - one of the ways I discover which day someone was born.
The following is taken from a Wiltshire Times article published on 9th November 1878 which reports a speech given during the 100-year services and to celebrate their renovations (what we now know to be the Rachel Fowler Centre).
One speaker, Rev. T. Mann, minister in Trowbridge, talked about the Chapel’s origins when he related how Rev. Honywill came to Melksham and how he’d gone on to remain as the minister for the Independent Chapel for almost 60 years. [Honywill and his family lived on King Street in what we now call “Legion House”.]
