YOUNG Melksham is looking for volunteers to join their ‘Canberra DIY Squad’ to help maintain their building.
The local charity was recently told that Wiltshire Council will be giving them a 125-year lease for the Canberra Centre on Spa Road. The asset transfer will mean that Young Melksham will become fully responsible for all running costs of the site.
Chair of the trustees, Jon Hubbard says, “We are really excited that Wiltshire Council is handing over The Canberra Centre to Young Melksham, which will protect youth work here in Melksham for years to come.
“However, we are now going to have to maintain the building and undertake all maintenance ourselves. For some of it we will have to pay contractors, but we want to do as much ourselves as possible.
“Are you a DIY enthusiast, or maybe a professional who’s prepared to donate a little bit of your time to help us keep our town’s youth centre open?
“We are looking for people to help us with decorating, simple maintenance, basic repairs and gardening.
“We have loads of tea for willing volunteers, and have even been known to stretch to a bacon butty for a big job!”
