MELKSHAM’S ‘Tidy Town Days’ are set to continue this weekend, with the first taking place on Sunday 11th September.
The next event will be held between 1pm and 3pm on Sunday, when people are encouraged to get involved and help keep the town spick and span.
Organiser Miriam Zaccarelli says, “This will be the same day as the Gardener’s Society Annual Flower and Produce Show which runs all afternoon, so people who tidy the town can still enjoy the great display of flowers, crafts and produce in the Assembly Hall afterwards!
“Tidy Town Days are set up by the South West in Bloom Melksham group and Melksham Town Team, in order to help keep Melksham looking great all year round, and are a fun and healthy couple of hours of litter picking, weeding and cleaning up throughout the town.
“Volunteers meet at the Town Hall at 1pm, get kitted out with whatever equipment is needed, set off in pairs or teams around town for two hours, and come back for tea and cake by 3pm.
“Everyone is welcome, and there are some inspiring regulars, including a few grandparent and grandchildren teams and two volunteers in mobility scooters.
“Several businesses get involved in the Tidy Town Days, showing the great pride they have in being part of Melksham. Kingstons Estate Agents sent volunteers (and cake!) to the last Tidy Town Day, and Tim Carpenter of Sparkles Window Cleaning regularly washes bus shelters and street signs with his cleaning equipment, making Melksham shine just that little bit more.”
