A DOG who alerted neighbours when his owner went into a coma, has been praised for saving his owner’s life.
Boomer, an 18-month-old Beagle belongs to Ian Knight, who previously worked as a road sweeper in Melksham town centre for 16 years. Ian has type 1 diabetes and whilst suffering from a stomach virus, he went into a hypoglycaemic coma.
Ian explained, “I was in a coma in the night and Boomer was on the bed repeatedly barking, trying to raise the alarm because he knew something was wrong. The neighbours were alerted because he’s usually quite a quiet dog.
“The neighbours have a key, so they let themselves in upon hearing Boomer barking and saw what was happening. They rang the ambulance and I got taken to hospital.”
Ian was able to make a full recovery in hospital. He said, “If it wasn’t for Boomer, I would literally not be here now.
“Boomer is a hero. It’s amazing what he did, I feel quite emotional.”
