The village of Holt will once again be decorated with thousands of handmade poppies as this year’s Remembrance cascade returns to St Katharine’s Church.
The Holt Crafters have created a display of thousands of crocheted and knitted poppies, which have been draped from the church tower and illuminated by local lighting company Light Fantastic.
Following the success of Holt’s commemorative display last year, group member Helen Gray was contacted by surrounding areas wanting to create something similar.
“This year will see our local Wiltshire villages and towns, all close to each other, displaying poppies for Remembrance Day,” she said. “Why not do a poppy trail tour? Corsham, Atworth, Melksham, ending in Holt – or the other way round!”

The nearby display in Corsham has already attracted royal attention, with Queen Camilla visiting the town’s cascade of poppies recently to meet the volunteers behind the project.
“There are lots of coffee shops and good pubs to be found en route,“ said Helen. “Why not have a coffee at the Wild Herb at Holt’s Glove Factory before seeing the spectacle of St Katharine’s Church in the dark? The Tollgate and The Ham Tree will then be open for supper. What a day out and all done by hundreds of crafters in the towns and village.”
