Villagers in Holt have continued to knit and crochet for charity following the success of their Poppy Cascade last year.
Known as the Holt Crafters, the volunteers have been knitting and crocheting squares to make blankets, 10 of which will be donated to Dorothy House for their day care patients, with the remaining blankets distributed to local organisations
The Holt Crafters started knitting and crocheting poppies last year, when one local woman, Helen Gray, had the idea to create a poppy cascade to drape from St Katharine’s Church tower in honour of Remembrance. In total, the group made over 4,000 poppies for the cascade with a further 7,000 displayed around the village.

It was a project that brought together 210 residents in the community involving both the younger and older generations.
Poppies will once again be displayed around the village and Ham Green in May for VE Day’s anniversary to commemorate the end of World War II in Europe.
“The group is also planning a 15-foot Christmas tree with crocheted and knitted squares, which will also raise funds for Dorothy House and other local charities,” explained Helen.
“Beautiful squares are ready to be sewn together for throws and the tree, keeping the Holt Crafters busy during the cold months.”
“The volunteers will sew the squares together for the throws and tree when the sun shines at the Wild Herb Cafe or the Courts Gardens.”
