WOMEN in Holt have crocheted and knitted over 5,000 poppies that will be sewn by hand onto mesh that will form a cascade from St. Katharine’s Church bell tower from 1st to 18th November.
The poppies were made by 172 women, who were then approached to do a smaller display for the D-Day celebrations and have put a 10×6-foot poppy display on Ham Green along with a soldier made by a resident.
Knitters and crocheters have also made a pair of army boots, which now sit on the post box.
“The display in November will hopefully be a wonderful tribute to all who died in the war,” explained a member of the group, Helen Gray. “We will be selling handmade poppy broaches, clips, keyrings, hair slides, and hair clips to visitors throughout November for The Royal British Legion, made by the Brownies, Guides, preschool, school and volunteers in the village ranging in age from two and a half years old to 98 years old!”
