MELKSHAM Motor Spares presented a cheque to Dorothy House Hospice Care last week, donating over £1,200 from a recent customer raffle.
The car parts retailer held the raffle in April as a joint celebration of the company’s 47th birthday, and as part of Dorothy House’s Corporate 100 fundraising challenge, which challenged them to raise £1,000.
Melksham Motor Spares exceeded their target and raised £1,257 for the Winsley-based charity.
Managing director Phil Dodd said, “Our customers and suppliers are the best! We have been overwhelmed by the response from everyone and can’t thank them all enough for their generosity and support of such a worthy charity.”
Financial director Alison Cook said, “We’re really pleased with how the raffle turned out – we were overwhelmed by the generosity of people and companies who donated prizes. We didn’t expect it to be half as successful as it was!
“It was nice to get everyone involved in something for a good cause. It started off with this raffle, but we’re going to do more fundraisers later in the year to see how much we can raise.”
Dorothy House Hospice Care receives only about 16% of its funding from the NHS. This year, after NHS funding, more than £3million – or £9,500 a day – must be raised to continue to provide services at the current level.
Senior corporate fundraiser Phillippa Watson said, “We are thrilled by the response Melksham Motor Spares had to their fundraiser for Dorothy House. It was wonderful to know how they engaged with the community to collectively achieve the target. We are grateful for everyone’s support who gave, and Melksham Motor Spares for organising and hosting this event.”
Melksham Motor Spares, based in Bowerhill, is an independent distributor of automotive parts in the south west. The team plan on doing more sponsored activities later in the year, including a cycle, skydive, and walk.
