THE Melksham-based Knorr-Bremse group has had a boost following a record sales year which is hoped will increase job opportunities in the town.
In the 2013 business year the Knorr-Bremse group once again posted global sales considerably above 4 billion euros. Against a background of negative currency effects, the figure remained constant at 4.3 billion euros. The positive market development boosted the value of incoming orders to a record level of 4.78 billion euros (previous year: 3.95 billion euros).
From the Melksham location the supply and support of all Knorr-Bremse Rail Group systems takes place but also new systems are developed and manufactured for export around the world. The product portfolio also includes intelligent entrance systems, control components, air conditioning systems and windscreen wiper systems, as well as platform screen doors.
Sales in the Rail Vehicle Systems division were slightly up at 2.25 billion euros in 2013 (previous year: 2.22 billion euros).
The company is hopeful that job opportunities in Melksham will increase as the Knorr-Bremse group continues to grow and develop.
