Dorothy House Hospice Care is inviting local people and families to visit the Hospice in Winsley on Saturday 22nd April to remember loved ones and take part in their Memory Walk and Tulip Tea.
This year the two annual events have been combined for the first time and doors open from 4.30pm.
The charity’s Ali Wilkins says, “The 5km sponsored Memory Walk (previously the Dusk Walk) is a gentle stroll through the Wiltshire countryside and is open to all.
“It follows a picturesque route along footpaths, fields and the Kennet and Avon canal as well as featuring a hill at the end to challenge your fitness. The Tulip Tea offers visitors a chance to catch up with friends and family while enjoying the view of the Hospice gardens.
“The Tea is also a celebration of the fundraising work carried out by Tulip Fund holders who often make generous donations to Dorothy House in memory of a loved one.
“The Tulip Fund is a way of remembering someone special at the same time as supporting the Hospice to continue providing palliative and end of life care to patients and vital support to their families.”
For those not taking part in the walk, the Hospice chapel and grounds will be open to explore and there will be free creative family activities from 4.30pm.
There will be two sittings of the Tulip Tea to choose between – the first is at 5pm before the 5k walk or afterwards at 7.45pm. For those who are walking, other team members are welcome to stay at the hospice and enjoy the creative activities and refreshments.
Entry for the Memory walk is £12 for adults and £5 for children (all under 16s must be accompanied by an adult). Participants can choose to raise sponsorship or make a donation in lieu of a minimum of £20 per adult. Entry forms must be returned by Thursday 20th April.
Julia Barratt, Tulip Fund Administrator at Dorothy House said, “Both these events were created as special opportunities to remember a loved one, meet like-minded people and support the Hospice. Last year the two events attracted over 260 visitors so this year we hope to increase the numbers by making it a more inclusive event to suit all the family. Whether you’d prefer to take part in the walk or the tea, all are welcome.”
