A local walking group has highlighted the benefits of countryside walking and is inviting residents to join them on one of their scheduled walks.
The West Wilts Ramblers meet every Wednesday and Sunday, offering like-minded walkers the chance to explore nature and enjoy the many benefits of walking and spending time in the countryside.
A member of the group, Martin Jamieson, said, “Country walking offers a wealth of benefits for both body and mind. Here are just a few reasons to lace up your boots and head for the great outdoors:
“Boost physical health: Walking is a low-impact exercise that improves cardiovascular fitness, strengthens muscles and enhances joint mobility. The varied terrain of the countryside adds an extra challenge, promoting balance and stamina.
“Reduce stress and improve mental health: The serene beauty of natural landscapes is a powerful antidote to stress. Studies show that spending time in green spaces can lower cortisol levels, reduce anxiety and even improve mood.
“Connect with nature: Walking in the countryside allows you to immerse yourself in the sights, sounds and scents of the natural world. From birdsong to blooming wildflowers, it’s a sensory experience that fosters a deep appreciation for the environment.
“Social interaction: Joining group walks, such as those organised by the West Wilts Ramblers, is a fantastic way to meet new people and share experiences with fellow nature lovers.
“Exploration and discovery: Every path holds the promise of something new, whether it’s a breathtaking view, a hidden historical landmark or a charming village pub to discover along the way.
“Accessible for all ages: Whether you’re a seasoned hiker or a beginner, country walking offers something for everyone. Choose routes that match your fitness level and enjoy the journey.
“In addition to organising walks, the group’s Work Party Volunteers assist Wiltshire Council by checking and addressing many of the Rights of Way issues reported in the area. If you encounter a Rights of Way issue, you can report it using the MyWilts app, available for download from the App Store and Google Play.”
