Melksham Probus Club held their monthly lunch at the Kings Arms Hotel on Tuesday 2nd May.
The after-lunch speaker was Mr Martin Evans, who gave a most interesting and informative talk on the Bloodhound Project which intends to increase the land speed record to over 1,000 miles per hour. The car, which is being built in Bristol, is near completion and will begin the initial trials next year. The project has received tremendous support from Rolls Royce, Castrol and many other British companies, both large and small, and involved many schools and technical colleges along the way. The idea is to make this a British achievement and to show that this country’s technology is still a major player throughout the world. It is hoped that Bloodhound, driven by Andy Green, will achieve its aim in about three years’ time on mud flats in the north of South Africa.
The next Probus lunch will be held on June 6th at the Kings Arms Hotel and the speaker will be Mr Myles Pilling who will be talking about iPad and mobile technology.
