LOCAL residents are invited to a meeting at the Canberra Youth Centre next month, to discuss how Melksham and the surrounding area is prepared to deal with extreme weather or disaster emergencies.
The Emergency Planning Workshop will take place on Thursday 3rd December from 5.30pm to 7.30pm at the Canberra Youth Centre, Melksham.
The workshop will be led by a range of experts who deal with flooding, snow, storms, public health and the emergency services, with the end goal of having a localised emergency plan to be able to act in case of such events.
Wiltshire Council’s head of public protection, Surriya Subramaniam said, “We know that emergencies can happen anywhere, at any time. In the past year alone, we have helped people recover from floods, power cuts, and water outages. As winter approaches, we are asking that communities prepare themselves for the worst that severe weather can throw at them.
“When communities are organised and prepared, residents can be confident that they will be safer, and workshops like these are a great way of achieving that, we look forward to delivering it.”
The workshop is for the public to attend alongside town and parish councils, community groups, emergency services and anyone who can help or might be affected.
