The Melksham Gardeners’ Society had a talk on Let’s Grow Vegetables by John Tucker on Tuesday 25th April.
A popular returning speaker, John gave a humorous but informative talk about growing vegetables – including failures that can happen including his own nemesis of parsnips. Advice was given on winnowing out vegetables that take up space and narrowing down choices so that gardeners get the best out of their garden or allotments – and despite failures that happen to everyone not to be put off. A big thank you from the MGS to John for yet another enjoyable evening in his company. We would also like to welcome our new members and look forward to seeing you again.
The next meeting will be on Tuesday 30th May at the Rachel Fowler Centre at 7.30pm with our infamous Plant Swap and Quiz. Bring along plants/ cuttings/seedlings/bulbs and swap for something new and then show off your prowess in plant knowledge in the quiz. New members and Guests are always welcome. Entry is £1 for members and £2 for guests. Annual Membership is £10.
The club is holding their 9th Open Show on 10th September at the Melksham Assembly Hall and to encourage children into gardening and to enter classes, they had a Plant your Own Sunflower and 22 children took part, so hopefully they will be successful in growing their sunflowers and be able to enter the Closed Class for largest Sunflower head in September.
