The Liberal Democrats have started preparing for a snap General Election following the result of the EU Referendum.
As part of that process, the local party has selected Helen Belcher as their candidate for Chippenham.
Helen joined the Liberal Democrats soon after the 2015 General Election, and has already substantially improved the party’s vote in two local elections she has fought.
She has two children, has been married for over 20 years, and has run her own growing computer software company since 2004. She has also been a school governor since 2009. Helen is perhaps best known for giving evidence to the Leveson Inquiry in 2012, and also to a Parliamentary Select Committee on trans peoples’ rights last year. She has been recognised as one of the country’s most influential LGBT people in the Independent on Sunday’s Rainbow List for three years running.
Helen said, “My priorities for Chippenham are promoting planned and affordable housing and infrastructure across the constituency, sustaining high quality education and youth services, and protecting local jobs and businesses from the consequences of the Brexit vote. We should be working together to benefit the whole community, not just the wealthy few.”
