A planning application has been submitted for the relocation of Melksham’s Lidl store to land off Eastern Way.
Earlier this year, Lidl GB revealed the plans as part of a multi-million-pound investment to relocate the existing store on Bath Road, which has been open for nearly two decades.
The application has now been submitted to Wiltshire Council and proposes a single-storey building in Melksham East that is over a third larger than the existing facility.
Customer parking would include 134 spaces, including six per cent accessible spaces, nine parent and child spaces and two electric vehicle charging points.
Lidl GB says the development is expected to create 10 additional jobs, with existing employees at the Bath Road store able to transfer to the new store.
The company had originally planned to extend the Bath Road store onto the Unicorn pub’s car park but said this did not provide the additional spaces needed to serve the growing customer base.
Residents are invited to share their comments on the application directly via the Wiltshire Council planning portal.
Melksham Without Parish Council will be discussing its response to the application at its next Planning Committee meeting on Monday 11th May at 7pm at its offices on the first floor of Melksham Community Campus.
