Sixth form students at Melksham Oak Community School studying Criminology were visited by MP Michelle Donelan on Friday 9th June and learnt about her role and how laws are made in Parliament.
Students asked questions including, what motivated you to become an MP? What changes have you made? Have you had influence on a Bill or White Paper? Have you ever regretted voting in a certain way? Can you describe your average day as an MP? Do some Bills go through really quickly? How do you decide how you vote, are you ever told how to vote by your party? And have you ever initiated discussions for a change in a law?
One student, Kane Spark said, “It was really interesting finding out about Michelle’s role as an MP. She answered our questions really well and I now find parliamentary work much more interesting.”
MP Michelle Donelan said, “Great to return to Melksham Oak school and meet with sixth form criminology students. I enjoyed speaking with the students and answering all of their questions on how Parliament works and how our laws are made. As a local MP, I always look forward to visiting our schools and speaking with students, who are always full of exciting ideas for the future.”
