A FATHER and son, who share the same birthday, were given a surprise to remember this month when they took to the skies in classic aeroplanes.
Bowerhill local, Kevin Allsop and his son, Simon Allsop, both celebrated milestone birthdays on Saturday 6th July – Kevin turned 70, whilst Simon turned 40. To celebrate, Kathy Allsop, arranged for her husband to fly a Spitfire, and for her son to fly a Tiger Moth.
Speaking to Melksham News, Kevin said, “Flying a Spitfire has been something I’ve always wanted to do! I’ve always been going on about it. It was absolutely awesome to fly the Spitfire – we even attempted some aerobatics – we did a barrell roll, which was fantastic. My son Simon, who flew the Tiger Moth, used to be in the Melksham air cadets and has experience of flying – but he had reason to reach for the sick bag on the day, it was very windy!”
