Continuing with their 50th anniversary celebrations, the Melksham Lions Club held their 50th Charter evening on Saturday 12th October, with almost 100 people attending to celebrate the organisation and the work it does to support the local community.
The evening was held at the Melksham Assembly Hall and included a dinner, live music, a raffle and an auction.
Presentations were made
to the club and to Melksham Lions Club founder and current president Simon White by Lions district governor Sandra Manktelow, who gave certificates signed by the Duchess of Edinburgh, Sophie Rhys-Jones, who is the Lions Club of the British Isles patron.
Simon also made a presentation speech thanking the Melksham Lions Club members for all they do to support the club and the community.
The evening was bookended with music from local bands Modern Vintage and Manhattan Nights; food was provided by Evie’s Kitchen and the auction and raffle raised over £900 for the Lions’ charities: The Freewheelers, the Bobby Van, Wiltshire Mind and Julia’s House.
Melksham Lion Paul Carter said, “Prizes were donated by stall holders from our Picnic in the Park event in September, which was held to celebrate the 50th anniversary, along with ones from Dutch Fox Marketing, Dick Lovett BMW, G Plan, Leekes, The Foresters Arms, Bowood, McDonald’s, T12 Hair & Beauty, Wiltshire Framing, V&P Collins Farmshop, The Garage on the Hill, South of Heaven and The Toy Shop.”
