Melksham Lions Club president, Simon White, has been presented with an International President’s Award, marking his ‘excellence in service to those in need’.
As a founding member of Melksham Lions Club 51 years ago, Simon was given a medal and citation at the High Post Hotel in Salisbury by First Year International Lions director, Dr Karl Brewi, on behalf of International President Fabricio Oliveira.
Simon was also named Melksham News’ Person of the Year in 2024 for his decades of dedicated service to the Lions.
“As a child, I helped my father with the Warminster Rotary Club and, as a teenager, raised money with the local Young Farmers’ Club. So, when asked to join and form a Lions Club, it was the obvious thing for me to do. I was looking for comradeship and fellowship, which I most definitely found, having made many friends over my 50 years as a Lion.
“I am very humbled to receive this award from the international president. I have worked with so many fantastic, like-minded people over the years who have helped in our endeavours to support those less fortunate than ourselves.”
Last year, Melksham Lions Club celebrated its 50th anniversary with various events around the town, including a Picnic in the Park and a special charter dinner.
The club is still looking for more volunteers to join. “We meet every second Monday at The Kings Arms, Melksham, from 7.15pm,” said Lion Paul Carter. “If you would like to help us continue to fundraise for local causes and local people, then we would be happy to see you at one of our meetings.”
