As the Lion year comes to an end, it’s time for the Melksham club to reflect on their recent achievements and activities.
“Thanks to your magnificent support of our Easter egg raffle we were able to present Wiltshire Air Ambulance with £400,” say the Lions. “We were treated to a tour of facilities and helicopter, with a talk from the pilot and paramedics, which made us appreciate the high level of training and dedication that they have. a huge thanks to Hollie for arranging this and making us so welcome. Look out for our Easter eggs next year!
“We continue to help those in temporary accommodation and held an Easter party and egg hunt for the children and parents in residence, and as ever, thanks to Dave Hickory for keeping us all entertained.
“We have also assisted where needed to individual requests via CAB or social services where we can assess the situation and usually give assistance immediately where needed. Some international disasters also need our support, recently the floods in Mozambique, where Lions Club International give an immediate grant through the Lions Club nearest the event, and recouped the money from clubs around the world. One hundred percent gets to where it’s needed.
“As Melksham Lions, however, we do prefer to concentrate on Melksham and district. Look out for us at the Party in the Park and try to win a lion or have a go on the lucky dip, with a prize every time. We will also be at Seend Fete and the River Festival. Look out for the Lions logo at the carnival on the Town Crier’s transport (a little red corvette).
“We have recently changed our meeting place and are now at the Milk Churn on the second Monday of the month at 8pm – come and join in, you will be made most welcome.
“You can contact us on Face Book, website or call 08458 337401 (Jim Whyborn, President).
