Local indie band The Sunnies will take part in a band night showcasing young musical talent, aiming to raise awareness of the struggles local bands face in securing gigs.
The Sunnies will perform at the Young Bands Night, set to take place in Frome and organised by Frome-based band Butane Skies. The event was created after Butane Skies faced significant obstacles in finding opportunities to showcase their music.
Drummer for The Sunnies, Joe, said, “It’s always a fun night when these three bands get together. There’s lots of great original music and a chance to celebrate local music and the venues that give us the opportunity to perform.”
Grassroots music venues across the country have been struggling with rising costs and declining ticket sales, leading to calls for more support to help save these vital spaces, which provide young artists like The Sunnies with platforms to perform.
“Grassroots venues like these are invaluable for bands like us,” says Joe. “Without these venues, local bands wouldn’t get the chance to get their first foot on the music ladder.”
The Sunnies recently played a successful, sold-out headline gig at The Pump in Trowbridge and have been fortunate to receive support and performance opportunities from Kieran at Sheer Music at The Pump and Tom at Vamos Productions at The Old Road Tavern in Chippenham.
The event will be held at 23 Bath St in Frome, from 7pm to 10pm.
