A local bishop has opened and blessed the new school chapel at Shaw CE Primary School.
The Right Reverend Dr Andrew Rumsey, Bishop of Ramsbury, visited the school on Wednesday 5th June, to open and bless the chapel that the school’s Church Champions had designed and planned as a place of peace and reflection for the whole school.
One of the pews from Christ Church Shaw next door was given to the school to use in the chapel; a cross was made and given by a couple in the local community of Whitley and the children painted the stained-glass window.
“The children have exciting ideas for how to use and decorate the space,” says reverend Jane Palmer, the vicar at Christ Church.
Headteacher of the school Thomas Brewer said, “The school were absolutely delighted to welcome Bishop Andrew to Shaw School this week. He joined in a collective worship in the hall talking to the children about our school values and what they mean to us. He was amazed at the small space and how we had developed it including the children painting their own stained-glass window!
“Bishop Andrew hopes to come back soon to see how we are using the chapel. I was so proud of the whole school and the Church Champions for their efforts in making Bishop Andrew so welcome.”
