LOCAL manufacturer, Herman Miller, has been helping out the town’s food bank as part of the company’s Day of Purpose – a scheme to give back to the community.
Employees of Herman Miller did a collection at their factory in Bowerhill for any non-perishable food items, followed by a shift volunteering in the food bank.
“We helped pack food parcels for adults and children, decanted eggs, tea bags and potatoes into smaller quantities, wrote Christmas cards and wrapped socks ‘n’ chocs,” says facilities administrator, Jenny Freeman.
“The food bank volunteers explained to us that due to where the bank holidays fall over the Christmas period, the food bank will need to hand out three bags to anyone who needs one, rather than just one bag before Christmas. We have collected some dates from Kay and are giving out volunteering opportunities to employees at our Melksham site. This volunteering time will be given to the food bank to help pack food parcels as their workload will be tripled.”
For the last four years, Herman Miller has held a Day of Purpose when all their facilities worldwide close for one day and employees are given the opportunity to give back to the community. This is the second year that Melksham employees have volunteered at the food bank.
