MELKSHAM and District Historical Association celebrated their 60th year in November with an annual general meeting and social evening.
A spokesperson said, “There was a recap of a successful year and an indication of the year to come was provided before confirming Tony Fivash will continue as association President. Unfortunately, ill health prevented his attendance and we wish him a speedy recovery.
“In electing the new committee, we said goodbye to our longstanding Chair, Cathy Berry, and Treasurer, Viv Dwyer. Cathy joined in 1996 as Secretary until she became Chair in 2014. Viv has been the Treasurer since 2016 and whilst Cathy will remain on the committee, Viv’s contribution will be greatly missed.
“Andrea Whatley from the Melksham Tourist Information Centre, will be taking over the Treasurer’s role, where Viv has already been passing on her expertise. Paul Carter, current Chair of Melksham Remembers, was elected as Chair.
“Entertainment on the evening was provided by End of The Track and £246 was raised for Julia’s House in Devizes, before a ploughman’s meal was enjoyed by the 50-plus members and guests present. Modesty prevents me from saying which table won the quiz!
“For those interested in our group, the association meets on the third Thursday of each month. Meetings and lectures are given in the Assembly Hall, Melksham Market Place, at 7.30 pm.
“New members can join at the cost of £17 and membership runs from 1st January 2023. Guests are welcome to all functions at a fee of £3 a session.”
