The Melksham Makers’ Market returns to the Market Place on Saturday 24th June and looks to be full to bursting with local makers and artisan crafters.
Since starting market five years ago, organisers Sarah Hillman and Nicola Coleman are ‘over the moon’ with how well it’s grown.
Sarah said, “We always knew there were lots of talented people in Melksham and the surrounding areas but we never imagined we would have so many makers wanting to join us for our markets each month. Word certainly travels fast!”
The market welcomes over 20 marvellous makers each month; some with their own gazebos and some borrowing ones from Melksham Town Council. One such maker is Melksham based artist Karen Elliott.
Sarah said, “Karen is a colour obsessed, pattern lover! Her work is bright and cheerful with a strong influence from nature and florals, but with a twist.”
Karen said, “I work from my garden studio in Melksham, using mainly my imagination to compose a piece of abstract floral art or an upcycled piece of furniture. I studied interior design at college and have continued with various art courses over the years. Including mosaic, jewellery making, silk paper and air-dry pottery. I also have my own sports massage therapist business and being closed for many months over lockdown allowed me the time to reignite my passion for painting and art.
“This year I am attending all of the Melksham Makers’ Markets and spreading my wings into further venues. It’s exciting times and I can’t wait to put brush to canvas to create and sell!”
The next Melksham Makers’ Market is on Saturday 24th June from 9am to 2pm in the Melksham Market Place. For more information contact themelkshammakersmarket@yahoo.com; to see some of Karen’s work visit, karenelliottart.co.uk.
