THE family of Allen and Edna Gullis have thanked everyone involved in helping to celebrate the couple’s 75th wedding anniversary in May.
The story about the couple, who first met during World War II in 1941 at the Kings Arms in the Market Place, before marrying on 6th May 1944 at St Michael’s Church, Canon Square, captured the hearts and imaginations of everyone around them.
Following a story in the Melksham News, the couple were interviewed by BBC Points West and were also invited to a special anniversary celebration at St Michael’s Church.
The climax to the couple’s anniversary celebrations was a surprise 40s themed party held at the Assembly Hall, organised by their family.
The Gullis family said, “The party was an absolute success, Allen and Edna were thrilled that so many people wanted to celebrate with them.
“It would not have been possible without the help of local groups and individuals who went out of their way to make the party so special. We’d like to say a big thank you to the following: Melksham Air Cadets, mayor cllr Jon Hubbard, town crier Peter Dauncey and his wife Joan, toastmaster Mark Wilder, piper Jimmy, the Military Wives Choir, the Assembly Hall staff and caterers, the Melksham Rock ‘n’ Roll Club, Jim Gaisford for the loan of his vintage vehicles, and Mike and Angie Dale from Swinging Cymbals, who provided the music.
“To experience the joys of Swinging Cymbals, join in with their weekly tea dances at Broughton Gifford Village Gall on Tuesday afternoons and Sunday evenings, or Thursday afternoons at St Margaret’s Hall in Bradford on Avon.”
