MELKSHAM man, Luke Dark and a team of friends and family, will be taking on a 14-mile walk between Bath’s Royal United Hospital and Wiltshire Air Ambulance’s airbase in Semington on Friday 13th September, to raise awareness of the charity’s work.
The date also falls in Air Ambulance Week, a national campaign that Wiltshire Air Ambulance is taking part in to raise awareness of why the service is vital to the people of Wiltshire. This walk will be pivotal to Luke, who on 17th January 2014 was in a severe car accident and airlifted to the then Frenchay Hospital, Bristol. Luke sustained a number of injuries in the car accident including a brain injury, left lung contusion, left tibial fracture and a femoral fracture. He was taken care of by staff at Frenchay Hospital and their brain unit and eventually transferred to Royal United, Bath. He was discharged on July 4th after 7 months in hospital. Luke aged 24 said, “If it wasn’t for the fantastic team I would not be here today. I owe the Wiltshire Air Ambulance team my life and will do anything and everything I can do to somehow repay the favour”
“I have chosen this as the date as Wiltshire Air Ambulance will be marking Air Ambulance Week, a week that will help raise awareness of the charity. We plan to raise awareness as we walk along the route and anyone who wants to join us on this walk, would be most welcome.”
