MELKSHAM Music and Drama group are busy rehearsing for their latest pantomime The Old Woman Who lived in a Shoe, directed by Joeanne Londors.
The group says, “The pantomime, written by David Crump 2018, is based loosely on the nursery rhyme The Old Woman Who Lived in a Shoe, with all the traditional characters of a pantomime, great songs and dances and a hilarious script that will keep you laughing throughout.
“The pantomime tells the story of Baron Bootblack, who wants to demolish the town of Cuddleton for his devious plans. With the help of his henchmen Burt and Betty Buckle and his nephew George, he convinces the villagers to sell their houses. However, the Dame Nanny Rose Trellis refuses to sell boot cottage, and with help from her band of orphans, Shiny Sam the Shoe Shine Boy and the Genie, can they defeat the Baron and save the town?”
Director Joeanne says, “It is my first time directing a Pantomime and planning it all within a month has been fun, but challenging, as I have learnt many new skills such as re writing song lyrics so that they fit the Panto. Rehearsals are well under way, and we are looking forward to performing in February.”
The show will be performed at the Rachel Fowler Centre, on the 10th, 11th, 17th, and 18th February. Evening performances start at 7.30pm, with matinees on both Saturdays starting at 2.30pm, doors will open half an hour before the show starts. Tickets are now on sale £8 per adult and £6 concessions, these can be purchased through www.ticket source.co.uk/mmad/ or Melksham Tourist Information centre in Church Street opposite the post office.
