Local singer/songwriter, Kate Lomas, had her first single release played on BBC Radio 2 earlier this month.
Kate, from Broughton Gifford featured on the BBC Radio 2 Dermot O’Leary radio show in his regular ‘Some Mothers do Indie’ slot on Saturday 3rd September. Kate’s mother, Margaret Lomas, wrote to the show to promote her daughter’s musical talent and Kate was selected to be featured, coinciding with the release, on 2nd September, of her first EP of five tracks.
Kate, who is 21 years-old, has been writing and singing her own songs since she was 14, and has performed at many pubs and musical venues around Wiltshire, as well as at numerous local festivals.
A couple of years ago she teamed up with local music producer, Guy Britton, and they have been working together ever since. She is about to start her final year of a degree in song writing in London and has taken full advantage of the experience, adding two performances at Ronnie Scott’s and a gig at The Pheasantry in Chelsea to her CV.
Kate said, “It was amazing to hear my song on the radio and so great that it coincided with the release of my first EP. My plans are to keep writing songs for my next release in the New Year and gig my current music as much as possible.”
As part of the radio appearance Margaret chatted to host Zoe Ball, sitting in for Dermot, about her daughter and her passion for singing from an early age and then introduced Kate’s single, ‘Let’s Just Be’, the title track from her EP.
Full details about Kate can be found on her website: www.katelomas.co.uk, as well as two singles from her EP and links to the rest of the tracks. The video for her second single, Tipsy, is about to be released which features a dance choreographed and performed by Kate’s cousin, Kayla Lomas-Kirton and her partner Duwane Taylor, who are both professional dancers, with the video shot and edited by Kate’s dad, Jon Lomas of Magic Films, so very much a family affair. Kate’s website also includes a link to the Radio 2 interview.
