Members of 1st Broughton Gifford and Holt Scout Group joined hundreds of others for the Kernow Jamboree at Stithians Showground near Truro.
The Kernow Jamboree is a smaller version of the international jamborees, which bring together both Scouts and Guides from across Great Britain and further afield.
The jamboree was divided into five subcamps named after famous places in Cornwall. Broughton Gifford and Holt scouts were in Crofty, named in recognition of the mining for which Cornwall is famous.
It was a busy week of activities, ranging from zorbing, segways, inflatables, axe throwing, shooting, coasteering, paddleboarding and first aid, to a real-life game of Monopoly called ‘Kernopoly’. This saw the young people and leaders compete across Cornwall, from Bodmin to Land’s End, via bus, train and on foot, gathering photographic evidence of visiting items and places.
During the evenings, the fun continued with a full programme of events, including Kernow Got Talent, featuring performances from live bands, martial arts and steel drum band demonstrations, plus bubble parties and neon parties. The event finished on Friday evening with a parade of all participants for a closing party and fireworks.

“Many new friendships were formed, new shared experiences enjoyed, and many a challenge overcome in Scouting tradition,” said Chris Patterson, group volunteer leader at 1st Broughton Gifford and Holt Scout Group.
One of the scouts, Corinne, said, “It was really fun, I made loads of new friends. There were so many fun activities. Some of my highlights were the never-ending climbing wall, segway, coasteering, giant paddleboard, Kernopoly and crafts.
“It was a great opportunity to make friends with other scouts and guides, and I learnt some new skills and improved my confidence through jumping off rocks when coasteering, looking after myself and others, first aid and resuscitation and pasty making.”
