Local hairstylist Sophie Freegard from Tops salon has been announced as a finalist in a national competition to win a year of top-quality bespoke education and mentoring by high profile hairdressing names.
The Step Up & Shine Scholarship was launched in partnership with The National Hairdressers’ Federation and The Fellowship for British Hairdressing in honour of industry legend Christofer Mann. It exists to seek out and nurture enthusiastic stylists from around the UK that show raw talent and potential. The winning recipient will enjoy a year of bespoke education and mentoring and the opportunity to learn from the best in the hair industry.
The lucky finalists – of which Sophie is one of only eight from around the country – will now be visited in their salon by a National Hairdressers’ Federation (NHF) rep who will interview them on site as part of the next stage of the selection process. The final judging will take place on 1st April and the winner will then be invited to take part in a mentoring session with industry training expert Debbie G who will help them plan their education year.
Sophie said “I am so excited to be through to the next stage. When I sent in my video entry I had no idea I’d be spotted and now I’ve got the chance to go all the way and win a year of amazing education and mentoring.”
The winner of the Christofer Mann Step Up & Shine Scholarship will be announced in April at The Fellowship for British Hairdressing ‘President’s Night’ event in London.
