ATWORTH Parish Council has said a huge thank you to a dedicated local volunteer.
At the recent Atworth Parish Council Annual Assembly, Beulah Lewis was presented with an award celebrating her outstanding service to Atworth.
The chairman of the parish council Effie Gale-Sides said, “I was very proud to give the award as it was extremely well deserved, and long overdue.”
Beulah has supported the community in many ways over the years; helping at the Atworth Playgroup for 37 years, serving Meals on Wheels for 15 years and collecting for poppy day for 17 years.
The chairman continued, “She is a caring and considerate friend to many; visiting them in hospital and helping in times of trouble.”
Beulah did not expect to receive such an award. She said, “I am truly grateful. I have never received an award before. I never expected to be thanked.
“I enjoyed what I did very, very much. Playgroup was wonderful as I loved the children very much. Meals on Wheels was very rewarding and worthwhile.”
Unfortunately Beulah had to stop collecting for the poppy appeal after she had a fall and became less mobile. However the village says it is forever grateful for everything she has done.
Beulah has had an exciting few months as she also celebrated her 90th birthday with the Atworth Over 55s Afternoon Tea and the Melksham Pearlies.
Along with her award she also received a certificate, beautiful flowers and chocolates. Beulah said, “I shall keep the award in pride of place.”
