MELKSHAM charity Evie’s Gift is organising a Lockdown Street Fayre on Facebook on Saturday 20 June.
Bryan Clover said, “The aim is to generate some income for the charity selling goods that have been donated to us, and also to try and help local retailers get back into the saddle. A friend of mine was involved in a similar event in Scotland last weekend and it was very successful.
“The basic principle is that retailers (or wholesalers that sell to the public too), put their products on the new Evie’s Gift Lockdown Street Fayre Facebook event page, with either a link through to their own website, or list the items and then people can order direct by PM. Hopefully, it will open up a potential new audience for them.
“I’d like to get a load of Melksham businesses involved; I’m not planning a charge, but if businesses wish to make a donation afterwards, then that would be great.
“The sellers put a short introduction to themselves and their products on their opening post, then place as many posts as they wish during the day. I plan to market it as widely as possible this week starting with Twitter, FB and Instagram. I will also push it out via the various Melksham Community pages on Facebook.
“Evie’s Gift will be listing donated housewares and DIY products as well to sell throughout the day, as well as our branded items such as mugs, baseball caps and water bottles.
“If businesses want to be involved, they should contact me by e-mail on chairman@eviesgift.org.uk . Hopefully, we can kick-start things following the opening up of the high street on 15th June.”
Bryan and Patsy Clover set up the charity in memory of their 13-year-old daughter, Evie, who died from an aggressive brain tumour. Evie’s Gift has two main aims: to give immediate financial assistance to parents whose children have been admitted to hospital with a life threatening or life limiting condition, and to fund research into the rare brain cancer.
