A man has been arrested on suspicion of arson with intent to endanger life after a flat fire in Melksham in the early hours of this morning, Friday 9th October.
Residents were evacuated from the block of flats in Cranesbill Road after the fire broke out.
A resident told Melksham News that more than 25 people, including children, were evacuated from the building.
Wiltshire Police said officers responded to a report from the fire service at around 4.45am on Friday 9th October.
A spokesperson for Wiltshire Police said, “Following enquiries, a 41-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of arson with intent to endanger life.
“He has been taken into custody for questioning.”
Fire crews from Trowbridge, Westbury and Corsham attended the incident at 4.39am. Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service said the fire was in the lounge of a flat and was extinguished using two hose reel jets by firefighters wearing breathing apparatus.
The fire service confirmed it left the scene at 5.47am.
Ambulance crews also attended. There are not thought to have been any serious injuries.
