OVER 1,400 fans packed out Oakfield Stadium at the weekend to watch the Manchester United legends take on Melksham.
1,414 fans saw the Man Utd Legends take on a Select XI team made up of local veterans or players who have played for Melksham Town within the last 20 years.
A host of top names appeared for the United side including treble winners Wes Brown and David May; Lee Martin, scorer of the winning goal in the FA Cup Final against Crystal Palace; and Premier League winner Chris Eagles. Guest players also included England internationals Lee Hendrie and Micky Gray.
This was the third time the legends have come to Melksham, and having been beaten twice before, they had a score to settle – and they certainly did that, claiming a 9-4 win.
The event also raised £2,700 for charity, which will be split evenly between the Teenage Cancer Trust and Wiltshire Air Ambulance.
Club chairman, Darren Perrin, told Melksham News, “It’s been a fantastic day and we’re absolutely delighted with fabulous turnout and the tremendous amount raised for charity.
“And it was great to see some former players return like Luke Ballinger and Gary Higdon and what a treat to see players like Wes Brown and Chris Eagles play on the Oakfield pitch. All credit to Man Utd Legends for helping us put on such a great day and bring fans back to the Oakfield Stadium.
