Children at The Manor School recently celebrated Carers Week in an assembly by watching a DVD about young carers.
They looked at the role of a young carer and their additional responsibilities and how their lives can be challenging.
Carer’s week this year focused on carer friendly communities. These are places where carers feel supported. Carers Week state, “Carers Week is an annual campaign to raise awareness of caring, highlight the challenges carers face and recognise the contribution they make to families and communities throughout the UK.
“The campaign is brought to life by thousands of individuals and organisations who come together to organise activities and events throughout the UK, drawing attention to just how important caring is.”
At The Manor School, young carers are recognised and supported as the school works its way towards the Young Carers in Schools Award. The school now has a Young Carers Lead Governor, Tracey Barnes and a Young Carers Senior Leader Linda Mence in the school.
The Manor School aims to raise the profile of young carers and ensure that school is a carer friendly community. The next exciting thing the pupils will be taking part in is their annual Summer Fayre on 29th June starting at 3.15pm. Everyone is welcome to come and have fun and share time with these unique and inspiring young people.
