THERE was a sell out success for a music & pizza night held to raise money for Transforming Mental Health, a charity dedicated to funding mental health research.
The event was organised by Atworth-based father and daughter Nigel and Lucie Horton, as part of their fundraising campaign centred on running the London Marathon in April.
Nigel said, “We are delighted to say that the night raised over £2,500 and way exceeded our expectations.
“Some 150 people enjoyed music from Rachel Butterworth and her guitar accompanist Dave McKenna, followed by local dj Rob Ryan’s Motown Tribute, which kicked the dancing off.
“Next up were headliners Oblio who rocked the Lowden restaurant in Shaw with a fabulous covers set, greatly appreciated by the crowd. The evening was brought to a close by dj Christie with an hour of soul and disco ‘bangers’ that kept the dance-floor full to the very end.
Lucie said, “It was great that so many local people came out to support us. We must thank Jonathan and Alison Sinclair of Lowden for not only providing such a brilliant venue, but for their generous donation from pizza sales on the night; we wouldn’t have had the success we did without them.
“There’s more thanks due to other local businesses; Vitality Day Spa, ‘LiveFully’ Personal Fitness, Woolley Grange Hotel, Clifton Photography and Demuths Cookery School who all provided raffle prizes which helped swell our total raised.”
Now the hard work really begins for the duo as the training gets tougher by the week ready for the London Marathon on Sunday 28th April. If you’d like to make a donation visit: www.bitly.com/horton marathon.
