POLICE are appealing for witnesses to an incident that took place in the Market Place in the early hours of Sunday 2nd August.
A spokesperson for Wiltshire Police said, “Some of you may have seen a video shared (on social media), showing a disorder in the Market Place in the early hours of Sunday morning (2nd August).
“We have a saved copy of the video; enquiries into the disorder are being undertaken and efforts to identify those involved are being made. We will look to prosecute those involved under the Public Order Act.
“We want to be very clear, that this behaviour in our town centre is not acceptable. It should be a safe place for everyone to enjoy at any time of day; it is not a place to air drunken grudges.
“This is a small town; before you think about engaging in this sort of behaviour, think about the consequences and the high likelihood of being identified later. If anyone has information regarding this disorder, please call 101 using Crime Reference 54200076566.”
The incident follows the concerns of High Street residents who say that they have seen a rise in drunk and disorderly behaviour in the town centre after lockdown restrictions were lifted for pubs.
Residents in the town centre say that they have witnessed ‘loud, obnoxious, and disruptive’ behaviour – and have appealed to pub-goers to show more consideration for others when going home after their night out.
